Mara Hot Air Balloon Ride

  1. The balloons are humongous! Prepare to feel like an ant the second they are fully inflated.
  2. You will have to get to the site at ungodly hours. If you wake up at 3:00 am normally then you are in luck, the rest of you will sort of look like zombies for the better part of the morning. The reason for the early flight is because there is no wind at that time and since your captain will not have a steering wheel and will rely 100% on the nature, do not be late. The sunrise will be worth it though. I promise you.

3. The movies lied. You will not be the only person in your balloon (in the Mara, I don’t know about other hot air balloons in the world) In fact they will pack sixteen of you side by side like a tray of eggs. The body warmth will be welcome at that time of the morning though so get to know each other more. You will experience and behold one of the seven wonders of the world together. It will be beautiful. You will witness people at their most vulnerable and appreciate God and all his power.

4. Hopefully this guy will be your captain. His name is Mike and he has puns for days. A very pleasant human being to stand next to on a flight and very experienced at his work too.  Did you know you need a pilot license to fly a hot air balloon in the Mara? Our takeoff was so smooth I didn’t even know we were airborne until he announced it. The landing was not so bad either, thank God he wasn’t a quack.

5.  You will witness the raw beauty of the Maasai Mara in the best way possible.

It is a once in a lifetime experience so start saving up. You will part with about $500 for a hot air ballooon ride in The Mara.

Thank you so much to Canon for sponsoring my first Hot Air Balloon ride and for the opportunity to test out the super canon 5D Mark IV.
