Kenyan artist Joshua Obaga recently stunned art lovers (and anyone with a heart really) by running a series of illustrations titled ‘Black Thoughts’. Through his Instagram account, the artist urged his followers to share their fears and insecurities to be compiled into a series of illustrations. I was a little late to the party, but after viewing his illustrations a week after the series ended, It hit me that pain is universal. The anonymity of his work also added to the fact that you can never really know what your neighbor is going through so be nice and lend a helping hand where need be.
I did a thorough stalking of Joshua Obaga’s Instagram account and below are some of the images and accompanying captions that made me feel some type of way.
“NOT: Good enough. Quick. Marketable. Relevant. Needed. Bothered. Making the right choices. Going to matter for very long. In the right place. At the right time.”
“She won’t come closer and she wont go far away. It’s exhausting.”
“I pretend to have issues so that people will feel sorry for me.”
“I am in love with another woman… What I am trying to say is I am cheating on my girlfriend. But I am trying to end things… with the other woman that is.. and it hurts like a motherfucker.”
“Love is pain”
